Welcome to Engineering! The Engineering curriculum is designed to engage students in hands on learning to explore topics related to Science, Technology,  Engineering, and Mathematics. The students will be connected to the class by using Schoology to access their notes, assignments, and activities.

About the Courses:

Engineering 8
Offered to 8th Graders
In this unit, students will be tracing the history, development, and influence of automation and robotics as they learn about mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation, and computer control systems. Students will be using the VEX Robotics platform to design, build, and program.

Engineering 7
Offered to 7th Graders
In this unit, students will be able to follow the Design Process using STEM methods to problem solve a situation. In order for students to problem solve, students will work with group members and use brainstorming, sketching, Computer Aided Design (CAD), and scale models to communicate their results and design. These techniques have real-world application and transition into all core academic classes.

We will be building scale models of playgrounds. It is helpful for students to bring in recyclable materials: cereal boxes, paper towel rolls, water bottles, etc.

Students have also found it to be helpful to have their own: Rulers, scissors markers, colored pencils, pipe cleaners, various sized balsa wood, foam board (craft section at Target has proven to be extremely beneficial).

Engineering 6
Offered to 6th Graders
In this unit, students are introduced to and use the design process to solve problems and understand the influence that creative and innovative design has on our lives. Students will develop their measuring and sketching skills while practicing engineering techniques through design and modeling.

We will be building a "Skimmer" (it's kind of like a paper airplane for the floor). Students are asked to bring in
cereal boxes (or other similar sized cardboard box - fruit snacks boxes, granola bar boxes, cheez-it boxes, cracker boxes, etc).
